Last Saturday saw our 1st team playing their first away game of the season to Chipping Norton coming off the back of a home defeat at the hands of Burford. Alas Home advantage played yet again a great advantage with Chipping Norton capitalising on local knowledge coupled with some amazing shot play during the course of the day.
Ashley Walton & Chris Little led the side out against Ash Collier & Rich Wiston and although playing really well lost 2 & 1 to some "wonder " shots and some poor luck bounces.
Lee White & Tim Smith played steady par golf until the turn then accelerated to a 2 under par back 9 to win comfortably 4 & 3 to level the match against Chris Dyer & George Kaye.
Peter Clements & Toby Morgan were playing anchor against Chippy's Stuart Allen & Will Preece and whilst a close fought contest until the 13th the wheels came off the "Frilford Trolley" and a 4 & 3 loss ended the match with a 2:1 victory to a very well turned out Chipping Norton team.
So, we are now halfway through the league season with all teams having played 5 games. Burford lead the table having lost only 1 game to The Oxfordshire. Frilford Heath & Tadmarton Heath are tied 2nd having lost 2 games each with The Oxfordshire lying in 4th having gone down 3:0 at home to Tadmarton 2 weeks ago leaving Chipping Norton and Oxford City in 5th & 6th respectively having lost 3 of each of their games to date.
The Challenge for Frilford Heath now is to field it's strongest side for the rest of the 2013 campaign and recognise that with most of the remaining season games away from home this is going to be quite a test if we are to win the league. Losing against Burford at home may well prove to be pivotal in our challenge this year.
The next 1st team match is in the Shaw Gibbs Foursomes knock-out competition aginst Hadden Hill away on Sunday June 16th ( Fathers Day) with a 10:00am start.
