Saturday May 11th Frilford Heath 1st team played host to Tadmarton Heath in Division 1 of the Shaw Gibbs Foursomes League. The club were hosting 3 visiting Tadmarton teams on the day and an early 08:10 start on the red course was set for the 1st team match which as it turned out was a blessing in disguise with the weather due to turn very wet and windy by around late morning.....which it did!
First off were Peter Clements and Tim Smith for Frilford who proved too strong for Tadmarton's Andrew Mason and Owen King cruising to a 4&2 win in the opener. Elliot Bradley & John Summers followed in the second match with a fine win over Tadmarton's captain, Ian Manning and Luke Washbourne 3&1. Could this be Frilford's first clean sweep match of the 2013 season?.......no! After a really tough battle between two closely matched pairs Joe Richardson & Frilford captain Dave Breslin shook hands on a tight halved match with Spencer Hallam & James Burton leaving Frilford as comfortable overall match winners 2.5 : 0.5.
This win moves Frilford Heath up to 2nd in the Division1 table with 8.5 points behind The Oxfordshire on 10 points but Frilford still have a match in hand as we have only played 3 matches whilst The Oxfordshire have played 4 so far this season. Burford on the other hand crept up to 3rd in the table on 8 points, also having played 3 matches this year after a fine 3:0 win last Saturday against Chipping Norton at Burford.
Frilford Heath's next match is indeed against Burford this Saturday at Frilford on the Green Course teeing off at 09:30 which looks set to be yet another close battle with our neighbours so why not come along and support our first teamers teeing off this Saturday in this crucial top of the table clash.
Finally, Frilford Heath play against Stoneham next Sunday May 26th at the neutral venue East Berks Golf Course in the first round of this years Brokenhurst Stag competition which is played over 36 holes, Foursomes in the morning followed by singles in the afternoon all played off scratch.
