Derek Craik Junior was born in Henley-On-Thames on 25th May 1970 and moved to Abingdon when his father became head professional at Frilford Heath in 1979. He attended Dunmore Junior School before progressing to John Mason Secondary Modern School.
From an early age, encouraged by his father, Derek showed a natural flair for golf. At the age of 13 he represented Scotland Boys in the Home Internationals. He represented the Berks, Bucks & Oxon under 18 boys Colts and full team.
In 1990 Derek turned Pro and went on to be fully qualified in May 1994.
Derek spent several years playing full time. In November 1996 Derek became head professional at Chipping Norton Golf Club before eventually returning to Frilford Heath in April 2001 to succeed his father.
